Police Memorial Tribute
PC Stephen Tibble QPM was off duty riding his motorbike when he went to the assistance of colleagues engaged in a foot pursuit.
Initially flagged down by T/DC Wilson, Stephen gave chase on his motorbike, riding past the pursuing officers and the suspect, before stopping and getting off his motorbike to block the suspect’s path.
As PC Tibble tried to catch hold of the suspect, the man produced a gun and shot PC Tibble twice in the chest at point-blank range. The officer sustained fatal injuries and died later in hospital.
He was posthumously awarded the Queen’s Police Medal for Gallantry for Gallantry.
