Police Memorial Tribute
One of two officers who were fatally shot while trying to apprehend an armed suspect who had earlier presented himself at West Ham Police Station and, when asked to empty his pockets, produced a gun and started shooting, narrowly missing an officer.
The man then ran out of the station, pursued by police.
Inspector Pawsey was driving to duty when he received a radio message about the armed man and shortly thereafter he located him but was shot and killed.
Posthumously awarded the Queen’s Police Medal for Gallantry.
