Died in St. Thomas' Hospital after being fatally injured when he was struck by a horse-drawn carriage and thrown under its wheels.
Police Memorial Tribute
On the morning of Monday 29th December 1845, PC Maguire was opening the great gates at the Nine Elms Terminus, London, for a horse-drawn carriage to pass through, when he was struck by the carriage’s pole and thrown under the wheels, sustaining an extensive head wound and other severe injuries to his body.
He died in St. Thomas’ hospital later that same day.
