Police Memorial Tribute
Died in Steevens’ Hospital, Dublin, two days after being fatally wounded when he was shot as he walked from the RIC barracks in Market Square, Thurles, to his home on The Mall, a short distance away. As he approached his front door, he was fired on by four gunmen who had been lying in wait for him. This action led to the disturbances that became known as ‘The sacking of Thurles’.
