Fatally stabbed during a terrorist attack at the Palace of Westminster.
Posthumously awarded the George Medal for Gallantry.
Police Memorial Tribute
Fatally stabbed by a knifeman while on unarmed Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection duty in New Palace Yard, at Carriage Gates, outside the Palace of Westminster.
Moments earlier, in a terrorist incident, the attacker had driven over Westminster Bridge, striking and injuring three police officers and many pedestrians, four of whom died, before crashing his car. Armed with two knives, he then ran into the grounds of Parliament, where he was confronted by PC Palmer.
Posthumously awarded the George Medal for Gallantry.
PC Palmer had 15 years service, having previously served in the Royal Artillery. He was assigned to the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command of the Metropolitan Police. He is survived by his wife and their children.
