Shot in the head and killed, alongside a colleague, as they and two other officers were returning to duty from leave.
Police Memorial Tribute
As four officers were returning to duty from a period of leave, John and his colleague, Constable Albert F. Caseley, were were shot in the head and killed, at Hillville, just outside Killorglin, County Kerry.
The other two officers, Constables Ernest Bright and Patrick Waters, are believed to have been abducted and killed.
