Roll of Honour Citation
Killed instantly when, in the early evening, his motorcycle collided with a car while travelling to duty.
Police Memorial Tribute
PC Currie was travelling to duty on his motorbike when, at 5.15pm, he collided with a stationary lorry on the Glasgow to Edinburgh Road near Newhouse. He sustained multiple head injuries and died instantly.
He was buried at Kirk o’ Shotts Cemetery on Monday 26th January 1953. There was a large turnout at the funeral with sixty colleagues from the local Burgh and County forces in attendance.
John, who was single and living at home with his parents, joined Motherwell & Wishaw Burgh Police in 1950.
