Fatally wounded when he was stabbed three times as he attempted to arrest a handbag thief.
Posthumously awarded the Queen's Gallantry Medal.
Police Memorial Tribute
While off duty, late at night, walking through Covent Garden to meet his wife, DC Morrison spotted a thief with items stolen from a nearby public house. Despite being threatened with a knife, he chased the thief and cornered him outside the High Commission of India, in Aldwych, where the thief stabbed James three times.
He was taken to St. Bartholomew’s Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Posthumously awarded the Queen’s Gallantry Medal.
