Beaten to death with a table leg after he recognised three known criminals and realised they were in possession of stolen property.
Police Memorial Tribute
George was off duty at the time of the incident but having alerted the police he followed the men who knew him to be a Special Constable.
They subsequently ambushed the officer and beat him to death.
