Police Memorial Tribute
On the afternoon of 21st October 1920, Constable Rundle and two colleagues left their barracks in Leap to arrest a man in the village of Glandore, County Cork, though the man was not at home at the time. On their return journey they were ambushed and fired upon by terrorists armed with shotguns. The RIC men returned fire but were, once again, fired upon. Constable Rundle was fatally wounded and died two weeks later, on 4th November.
His colleague, Constable Bertie Rippingale, died on 22nd October, the day after the attack. The third officer was wounded but survived.
